A historic mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The home of The Dalemain World Marmalade Awards

A nationally important collection of furniture, ceramics and art along with everyday objects from the past and an award winning, plantsman’s garden.

The Romantic parkland and gardens at Dalemain sit within the rugged splendour of this sublime landscape with the high fells of the Lake District or the far Pennines around. Here, it is easy to enjoy the splendour of this World Heritage Site.

The garden  is also a garden of imagination and magic. A topiary dragon guards the low garden while an earth giant slumbers by the river. Through a door from the light of the formal garden, Lob’s Wood is a leafy green and a wilder world, filled with beech trees. Here, too is a ‘stumpery’. The Animal Garden is rich with plants including hedgehog holly, snake bard, foxgloves and Solomon’s seal.

The garden is well known having won the Historic Houses Garden of the Year Award, sponsored by Christies in 2013

Marmalade Festival

From a small Lake District community to octogenarian marmalade makers in Hiroshima and Australian marmalade for the King this is a shimmering citrus community of people that spans the globe. We are The Dalemain World Marmalade Awards with a hundred volunteers running a competition to find the best marmalade in the world. It began in 2005 with an idea to celebrate community and educate through cooking, champion marmalade makers and raise money for charity. Over the years we have been joined by marmalade makers, spanning generations, from Taiwan to Brazil, Norway to Northern Ireland, India to Argentina.
